A big help was this Stormscope, which, believe it or not, is serial #1... the prototype, purchased from "a guy who got it from Paul Ryan".
This one works very well, and with the additional resource of ATC giving us info from their radar, we were able to find a nice hole to zip through without veering too far south.
Soon it was over, and we were flying through mostly clear skies.
The wind was knocking 10 kts off our groundspeed, and 6EE didn't really want to climb, so it was decided we'd cross Lake Erie at 6000. Here we're getting "feet wet" just east of Burke Lakefront Airport on the Ohio shoreline...
And not too long after, we made landfall somewhere near Leamington, Ontario.
This photo was taken as we passed over Fighting Island, just south of Detroit.
Got a pretty good look at KDTW, even though i was seated on the "wrong" side...
Some more clouds, then beautiful skies over Michigan as we headed for Moskegon, on the east shore of Lake Michigan.
Still looking good for our 1330 IFR reservation into KOSH when we arrived at KMKG.... "Echo Echo" got a nice drink of avgas there.
Had to get a shot of this lovely GV before piling back into the Piper...
Next: part 3- one more lake... then Oshkosh!!

you should fly over sometime and do lunch and the museum
