Looks like a great gig!

Ah... I'm always amused when people try to make concert-pictures with cellular phones ( righthand corner, first shot)...  :)

The only way to make decent shots on an occasional basis, is using a bridge ( but limited chance on succes) like the Panasonic FZ8 - 18, Canon G9, Fuji s100fs,...

If you really want to get into eventphotography, I'd recommend a dSLR with fast (f2.8 or lower) lenses and a lot of practice...
