One of "Republic"s" better birds...

Used to have one at old "Kingcity" off 400 way back when.

Remember that strip?  It was tight but we got that, the Navion and the Harvard in and out of there no problem.
Now the strip is an Amusement Park.

Excellent! I've always thought the Seabee was a fine-looking airplane ("strangely beautiful" is right!).
I've wanted one ever since reading Richard Bach's memories of flying his Seabee in A Gift of Wings.

Hi Ken...

Okanagan (hope that is how it is spelt) Helicopters had a hangar/offices and maintenance at Kingcity on the west side of the runway and Kingair Maintenance I think it was called was on the east side of the runway which paralleled HYW 400.
The "Toronto Flying Club" which moved from the Toronto Island Airport, now called Toronto City Center Airport I think and I knew it as "King George V Airport" moved to Kingcity on the West side of the runway.  That flying club has long gone now to as far as I know.

When they built Canada Wonderland we lost both Kingcity and Maple Airports to the political idiots.  We also lost a home which sat on the Maple Airport, was our 400 Flying Club clubhouse as well as the best designed house in Upper Canada way back when.  

All in the name of "amusement" and "political progress".    

Going back to your "Seabee", good aircraft in the air and on the water.  It had a throw over yoke much like the DHC-2 "Beavers" and a twin engine Seabee was also manufactured.  Never flew the twin but saw them many times.
I would think a good Seabee today would be a fine catch and bring a good Canadian Dollar on the market.

except it flies much better. If you ever have an engine failure in a lake renegade you have to recognize it and immediately fix the trim or the nose will pitch up sharply. However, on the Seabee if there is an engine failure it will go on like most other aircraft

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I always liked the look of the Seabee. Never seen one in 'the flesh' & not likely to now. There were apparently 8 imported into England but most were sold on to other European & Scandinavian countries. It's possible that 2 remain in this country. http://www.seabee.info/rc3_UK.htm
