Lovely dogs Westies ...... but it sounds like you and Craig have dogs that need a little training.
Barking at night is not good unless you have someone trying to break in or a fire. When you go down to her you are rewarding her for barking, so it's best ignored. She'll eventually get the message that barking gets me nowhere so why bother.
As for the possessiveness, that is bordering on the dangerous, you should be able to take anything out of your dogs possession without fear of being bitten. A small amount of professional training or advice will help with that problem.
My two Labs aren't perfect but at least I know I can handle them even when they have toys or food in front of them, I can remove either without any aggression being shown, they know who's the boss. I equally know that my step kids and the toddlers that my wife child minds are able to take stuff off the dogs without any fear. You may say that is down to the dogs personality and breed, it's not, it's down to training and any breed can be trained out of aggression, even some of the notoriously aggressive breeds.
