Haha, I was about to say... thats no lampshade, thats a ufo! Nice shots, its so hard to time it just right to capture lightning on film.

darn! i've always wanted to take a shot of lighting... how the hell do you do it? you can't just be lucky 4 times in a row! seriously is there a technique?

Not four times in a row....I stood next to my camera on a tripod with a remote release, set it to manual with 10 second shutterspeed and f5.6 and kept pressing the button

Took about 200 shots, of which 4 had lightning on

If I'm not mistaken, you can also use the bulb-exposure ( hidden somewhere in the menus). When using this type of exposure, you open the shutter and close it again at any point you like. So you open the shutter and wait until you see a bolt, then you close it.

No idea how the results are with that technique.

The only problem with bulb is that the exposure could be off.....if you find a speed at which the camera correctly exposes the buildings and sky, not under or over, without lightning, then push the speed up a little from that it generally works better

bulb is much better to use during daytime storms. You have a lot more to play with in terms of light. Night time your best to just use the timer and hope.
