Passing through KCLT again

Postby beaky » Thu Apr 24, 2008 8:44 pm

Working in- where am I again- oh yeah, Myrtle Beach, SC this week... had another nice flight with a bearable layover in Charlotte. Wish it had been longer so I could slip away to check out the museum; maybe some other time.

Anyhoo, here's some snaps.

Dash 8 heading out...

Another look at the mysterious 727: I was wrong about the wing; it looks fine. Maybe this bird is just being cannibalized for spares.

A Cessna 414 arrives as we wait for departure:

Another classic 737 takeoff... or blastoff, depending on how you look at it. ;D

Descending through layers towards KMYR.

One possibility for the 727 is an ARFF trainer (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter).  When they retire aircraft for that, they usually remove the engines.  Fedex just retired a bunch of 727s and gave them to airports to use for trainers.  They would even fly it in for you and then remove the engines.

Hey, Your in my area of the country now, I live about 1.5 hours from CLT, the museum got a few old tanks, and display planes (most of which have seen better days), but they do have a running DC-3, which sometimes goes on flights. ;)

Great! Did you fly in a 737-200? or was it a later one?

So many people don't know how to Google a N-number. :D

I did actually know it was a 414, but what I'd forgotten is that the model name is actually "Cessna Chancellor"... ;D
