I always preferred flying the DHC-1 with the "Bubble Canopy"   :)

Anyone would think you're Canadian! ;)

I have to agree in some respects. If it's yellow, it has a bubble, if it's silver or red and white, it has the UK canopy.

The Shuttleworth example was bought for the collection by the SVAS - Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society from a private owner. It had previously been very civilianised (you can see the modern grey cockpit in Doug's photo). I doubt it will change any time soon due to the fact it is one of the collections "less interesting" (ie, more common) aircraft which is displayed more for its entertainment value than historical interest.

However, in time I'd like to see it back in 1950s RAF colours.

Hi C   :)

I think there as many with the UK canopy as there are with the bubble canopy over here now.
I flew a friends DHC-1 which was in the red and white livery and had the bubble canopy several weeks ago.  He is talking about having the front half of the wing metalized as well now, rather than fabric.  I am not sure how that will work out but I suppose they have mods to do that now.  He will probably go to a metal front spar and replace the wooden one when he has her rebuilt.
Can tell you this though C, she still smells like a real aeroplane.  ;)

I could be wrong but I think most British-built Chipmunks had a metal skinned leading edge. Not sure about the main spar but I always assumed that was metal too.

Now THAT is something I would like to see. Too many of those red & white jobs around.

I doubt too many owners had enough change to repaint the last batch that were sold (the ex-AEF ones in the mid 90s) - IIRC they were selling between
