In case you thought my job was glamorous...

Postby beaky » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:24 pm

Sure, I get to travel and do some fun stuff if I have time, but mostly these out-of-town calls are a pain, especially these upgrade and preventative-maintenance projects.
This is the tidiest(!) of three racks I'm working on this week... most of the gear in it is dead, so I've actually moved the good stuff to another rack. Also, of course, cleaning up and re-wiring as necessary. I wish I could just gut them and start over, but I've made them neat enough and everything should work. ;)
I'll show some pretty "after" pics later.

I'm pretty sure these racks were initially installed by blind, retarded crack-addicted baboons... it's the only possible explanation.

I never really get used to working nights, certainly not in a week's time. Makes for a rather bleary-eyed work shift.
"What the hell was I doing again...? Oh, right, I was going to put this tie wrap on something... :D

Here's a good look at what I have to schlep with me on these trips, along with a laptop, a duffel with my clothes, and of course my flight bag. ;) On this outing, the check-in weight of this case was 60 lbs. good thing it has wheels... ::)

I can't believe it- those doggone baggage handlers have managed to break my nearly-indestructible Pelican case!!  :o
My baby!!  :'(
Looks like somebody took a hammer to it...  >:(
But it still works OK; no big deal.

If you're into electrics or electronics, you can never have enough tie-wraps!

LOL, I've gone through about 1/2 lb. of them already. :D

Part of it, when sorting out something as messed-up as this, is that you need a bunch of tie wraps to sort of get stuff out of the way, then of course as you make bundles other things get unearthed that need to go in the same bundle, so about half of the wraps get cut off before I'm done.
I try to keep a minimum of wraps on there; just enough so it's neat and you can still get at things if needed later.

I see baggage handlers at work every day. There is nothing that is "Baggage Technician" proof.

Yes... I'm reminded of the old American Tourister commercial that shows a very scientific test to simulate typical baggage handling... :D
