Recent memories

Due to unexpected demand. ::)
These didn't need scanning, just cropping/resizing. I took them with my new digital camera at this year's RAFA show.

One for my old sparring partner Brensec. Image

This display work is tiring.

Now for a complete change of era.
This is me at the Tangmere Museum dreaming of when I was sweet 16 & flew in one. The 2-seater version naturally. (It's the magnificent Hawker Hunter.) ;)

Again, lovely shots Doug. Err one thing though, shouldn't you be wearing the helmet? Otherwise it could collide with your canopy doing untold damage ;D
Seeing these great shots of yours I definately need to get up to Hendon while I'm home. I need a warbird fix ;D

Mark ;)

Thank you kind Sir. As for the helmet, I'm waiting for my assistant to strap me in & do all that stuff. We're civilised in the RAF you know. ;)

I told you in your other thread. I joined the ATC as soon as they would have me. That was back in 1956 when I was 13 1/2. 1959 was a good year for me. I was 16 with all the confidence of youth. Got my gliding licence in June. Two months later I broke the sound barrier (twice) in my all-time favourite jet. Had a go on the stick too. You can't get much different than that. LOL

In all, it cost me the vast sum of 16 bob (1 shilling per day for meals), that's 80 pence to you. They still do stuff like that now but it naturally costs a lot more.

I have to admit that my photo is a bit of a fake. I'm sitting in the nose section of a Hunter F.4. This was removed when the original aircraft was converted into a 2-seat T.7. I believe the rest of the aircraft (with the trainer nose section attached) is still in service with the Swiss Air Force. One of its regular pilots visited Tangmere & confirmed serial numbers.

There must have been plenty of these discarded nose sections around at one time. It occurred to me that they would make a wonderful basis for a flight simulator.

Especially in the UK there is quite a following for cockpit displays.  As you say, there are more "discarded" nose sections than complete a/c, so enthusiasts restore them to as near original condition and display them with as much pride as if it were the complete a/c... they're also easier to transport about.
