Garden Visitor

Postby stuart1044 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 1:01 pm

Had a little visitor in the garden today........

I came home today and found a mark on my window which closely resembled a bird (not the first time this has happened they are always flying into the window)....anyway thought nothing of until i went into the garden to find this........

We believe that it is injured as is all it has done all day is wonder around the garden, especially when you go near it.  It tries to fly away but just flaps one or two times then runs away into the bushes.

Now the question......We rang the RSPCA to possibly come and collect it, and they reckon it may be a fledgling rather than a pigeon?

I've seen lots of pigeons wandering about like this over the last couple of weeks. Also seen it reported in the papers. Don't know why & I've never noticed it before.

Now the question......We rang the RSPCA to possibly come and collect it, and they reckon it may be a fledgling rather than a pigeon?

A fledgling is a young bird that's learning to fly. It can be any type of bird. I'm no expert but it looks very much like a pigeon to me. If it's a baby then mum & dad should be somewhere nearby.

The RSPCA said that its family would be close-by, so keeping an eye out for them ;)

if he's learning to fly, let him mess with your flight sim for a little bit, get him a good idea of what he needs to be doing to get off the ground... ;D

It may be a baby Collared Dove... the tail looks more like one than a pigeon.

It will probably taste like chicken, random things always do!! ;D

I am actually surprised it took this long for the subject to change to eating the injured/learning to fly animal :D

Not much meat on that... ;D

If a wing was busted, it probably would not even be able to fold it properly, so that looks OK.
Maybe it just doesn't feel like doing any more flying for a while. ;D
