airventure 07- part 7-WWII bombers

Didn't get any good in-air stills of the bombers, but here's some nice static shots plus an obligatory glimpse of Aluminum Overcast as she made yet another trip around the area with a bunch of happy customers aboard.
some may find the abundance of static shots  a bit dull, but remember: I will be showing you, in this and upcoming posts, all airworthy ships (except for a few in the museum), some of them one-of-a-kind.

An almost-too-immaculate B25- not one of the planes that participated in that raid, just a tribute.

This airworthy A-26 Invader is for sale: a mere $475K and it's all yours. you might also want a multi rating first, and an understanding insurance broker. ;D

The EAA's resident B-17 was very busy all weekend; sadly they were using the other runway so I didn't get to see my old friend up close. I suspect she's doing just fine.

I was very happy to see a USMC PBJ (gunship version of the B-25) here; I've read about them but never seen one. I pity anybody who ever got in the sights of that thing in combat!!  :o Ths is another tribute; not sure of the actual history of this machine, but I think it was always a PBJ.

Ol' 927 is the oldest existing B-24A, and still flying thanks to the CAF. She has quite a history, despite being spared combat after cracking up in New Mexico before her scheduled ferry to England.

Whoops- I don't have the particulars on this B-25... but it sure is shiny. ;D

Great shots of awesome aircraft!!

I would love to up in the A-26.  My Wife's Uncle was a engineer on one during WWII.  He also was assigned to a B-29 at one time.  He passed on before I could get all the stories he had to tell me.

Love that flying Devil Dog, look at all the guns on that thing  :o (typical Marine for ya though, the more guns the better  ;D )

I didnt know the USMC ever flew those, guess I need to brush up on my aviation history.  Looks like the grandfather to our Spectre Gunships  ;D

As I understand it, the Navy spec'd 'em, but didn't want them, so the Marines got them. Not the only time that happened... ;D
