Back in the 2 mp days, Wendy had a Fuji 2800 and it pleased her immensly........one thing you can be sure of with Fuji - they really bring saturated colour home for you with their in-camera image processing ....... 8-)

You know the Z740 does have manual control right?  "PASM"   Its limited from 80-400 iso (100+ have horrible grain) F-stop is from 2.5ish to 8.0 and Shutter speed is from 1/1000 to 8 sec.  Though I'm guessing you just want better control and quality (as do I) so that Fuji looks to be pretty good so good luck  ;)

I'll second that, still use mine even with an slr&dslr cameras, seems to give the best colour of the lot.

I have a Fuji S9600, it's the best camera I've owned (so far  ;) ) but it took me a good few months to  get to grips with all the various settings and I feel i'm still learning now... I bought it in February.

But it does take great photos. OK it's not a DSLR but it's as good as you're gonna get in your price range.

BTW it has a half decent video capture on it too and I'd recommend at LEAST 2 Gb of portable media, I have a 2Gb XD card and a 2Gb Compact Flash card in mine (it takes both at once.)

I didn't know that  :-[

...good to hear though, my camera does the same thing, but since I can only get 1 gig in type "H" xD media, I use it to transfer and store from my high speed Compact Flash 2 gig card. Once they come out with a 2 gig "H", I'll get one of those. Until then I'll suffer with only 3 gigs in the camera.  ::)    ;D
