G-VFWE 07 Sunday

Postby Hagar » Wed May 23, 2007 3:33 am

Great Vintage Flying Weekend. I've been waiting a long time for this event as it has been a washout for the last two years running. You've all seen Mic's & Tom's photos of the Saturday when it was a tad wet & windy for vintage light aircraft. Conditions were absolutely perfect on the Sunday. Shame about the position of the sun which was just in the wrong place for decent shots of them landing. I took a lot of photos but it wasn't the best day I've had with the camera & to be honest I thought twice about posting any at all. Still, I can't complain about that. It was a very pleasant day out & I saw a lot of interesting & rare aeroplanes, some of which I don't remember ever seeing before.

That's enough excuses, here's the photos. Some of these are not what you might think.

More to come.

Wonderful shots Doug, I wish I'd been there!

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Great shots doug...seems you were at in the same position as me for those landings...the sun was in a terrible position :(

Looks like some more exotic types came in on the sunday then :)

Thanks for the comments. Not the best photos I've ever taken but I thought they were worth posting as you don't get the chance to see these rarer types every day. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the ones that aren't quite what they appear to be, like the two yellow biplanes. They certainly fooled me.

Nice!!

Must confess I had to look it up. I think this is the first time I've seen one.

Nice P-149.

They look very similar but it's actually a Ryan Navion Super 260.

PS. Did you miss the Lanc?

The lanc rather annoyingly didnt turn up....Unless we missed it which i doubt. It was scheduled for 3:25, we got there at 10 in the morning and left at 4:10 with no lanc....most of the vintage stuff had left by 4 though so I got loads of taxying shots that I didnt post (but could ;))

Don't know what time but it definitely turned up. The commentators couldn't stop talking about it. I was told it did 4 low passes with two being top shots. Never mind. I'm sure we will see it again. :)

Who, such a nice variety!

Is that yellow US biplane a variation of the stearman?

And that Ercoupe should have been at Antwerp...

Finally someone noticed. ;)

No, it's not related to the Stearman. It fooled me as well. I have to admit I've never heard of it before.

Naturellement M'sieu. It's a Naval Aircraft Factory N3N-3. http://aeroweb.brooklyn.cuny.edu/specs/naf/n3n-3.htm

PS. It's written on the rudder. ;)
