Biloxi- Day 2 (part 1)

Brought the camera along to the jobsite today... here's a few snaps.


Just turning onto the road after leaving the new condos where the crew is staying: this is the remains of a golf clubhouse. The course was so badly flooded with sea water that the land will likely be used for something else. Bear in mind that this area is north of the narrow bay, several miles from shore.

The little place next door to the jobsite...I hear this casino/resort cost about $3 billion. Yes, billion. Not sure what it cost to fix it up after the hurricane...




speaking of which, here's our patient: almost completely rebuilt, but we have several weeks of  work to do finishing up the sound and video installation.

It's amazing how they can rebuild some things so quickly and some things are still a pile of rubble!!

It's also amazing that they rebuild in the same area knowing that it can happen again at anytime but, then people living in the tornado belt do the same thing even knowing that a tornado can happen day after day with the right conditions!!

These people are stonger then I feel I would be in these situations!!

But yes, these folks are cheerful and hardy... and proud.

Glad to see they seem to get things moving again overthere... But I'd never buy a condo in an area that has been flooded before... chances are it will happen again in the future...

I guess the chances of a storm of that magnitude hitting that close again anytime soon are slim...  ::)

That's what they said about unusual rainfall in Belgium too... I know several places that have flooded 3 times in the last 5 years! I hope the people overthere don't have to go trough that...

Well, not wanting to rain on your parade (no pun intended), but here in Guatemala we were hit first by Mitch and then by Stan...   too many casualities, too much destruction for our little country...  :'(  :'(

Hope that none of that happens to you.  :-/

I'm not even half as optimistic as the people who are pouring money into these casinos, etc... I respect Mother Nature.
I'll be here for the beginning of the hurricane season, and believe me, I'll be the first one out of here if a big one comes this way!

For what it's worth, I think the people who live here know how lucky they are; even those who lost their homes... areas like this are much better-equipped to cope with Nature's fury than "less-developed" countries.  But there certainly was an outcry after Katrina from people all along the Gulf Coast: despite the USA's vast resources, many felt they were ignored.  New Orleans in particular became one of those "I can't believe this is America!" situations... it's embarrassing.
