Extraterrestrial stuff...

Postby Omag 2.0 » Wed Feb 21, 2007 2:31 pm

What? It is extraterrestrial... believe me!

The Moon and Saturnus, all shiny and bright again tonight...

Image

"close-up" of Saturnus... boy, does it reflect light...

Image

In dark surroundings, you'll see the delicate contrail passing the moon... it was amazing to see in real life...

Image

And some sort of lense-effect I guess... it's almost like there is a ghost-moon next to the real one... cool...

Image

The place: Belgium

The time: tonight

The actors: our solar system

Cheers,

Omag

Desperatly needing an SLR and a CCT-camera and a nice telescope for some proper deepspace photography... better keep on dreaming...  ;D

You're really rather good at this Kris. That must be quite some camera you have there.

PS. No point in me trying it unless I drive miles out into the country. The light pollution is terrible around here.

Hmmm. Was I wrong about Saturn? I don't have my astronomy program on this computer... I do have some low-power binocs with me, though- I'll take another look tonight. Coulda sworn it's Saturn that's been hanging around the moon the last week or so...

Nice Moon shot- a UV filter would have made it perfect, but good shot of the Earthglow on the night side.  8-)

How do you manage to take pictures of the moon and such like that!? I tried with my HP 945 and it streaked basically.... dunno if its my shaky hands or zoom or what it was (probably low light, it was pitch black out.... no street lights for over a mile here) Great shots!

Your lens effect reminded me of a shot I took last Sept Kris.......this is a composite of two shots I took within a few mins of each other, and I wondered at the time why there was such a difference, ....I still don't have a clue about the colour shift on these, although it was a very neat effect ........there was no filter used on either and they were both shot at f8 on a tripod with spot metering so that the sunlit reflection didn't overexpose the subject against the night sky.......the lens focal length in 35mm equivalent was 300mm.......... 8-)

I think maybe I was right (see link below)...Saturn is in opposition, and is visible pretty much all night, whereas Jupiter is appearing just before sunrise. Thru my binocs, it looks much like Omag's shot... the rings are not discernable without just a little more power.
Too bad I couldn't bring my telescope down here, because with all the open water surrounding Tampa and St. Pete, the light pollution is not too bad...
Of course, Jupiter and Saturn are so darn bright it's possible to get a good look with a modest telescope even in urban areas.

Ok, I'll change the captations... I've searched for quite a while to obtain info on wich planets are at the northern Hemisphere at what time, yet i couldn't find such maps... Thanks for the info Sean.

I thought we were going to see some UFOs. I have seen them before. YES, they are real.  ;)
