Over the Holidays was a blast!
My brother was in from Vegas!
My friend's band was playing at the local pub and I got to sit in on the drums!
Very different from the days of the recording studio, session playing, Hampton clubs & pub gigs I did for over 10 years!

As much as I love the drums and have played them for over 20 years professionally,
I just picked up a Fender and Kustom amp with a Celestion driver.
Very familiar with the guitar and thinking about taking some lessons !

Oi, I play a show at least once every week. It's not very fun anymore. My hearing is seriously deminishing.

I'll see if I can find a pic of me rockin' out. The club I play in, the stand for the drumset is way in back, past the front row of the crowd. So pics are always dark. I do believe I have at least one though.

Take it from an old drummer with a touch of tinnitus: get good hearing protection NOW, and use it religiously!!!

For me, it turned out not to be the drums themselves, but my monitor wedge that did the damage- my left ear still "shreds" on occasion, especially if I'm listening to live music... and my ringing is very mild, but could be worse.
And the drums and cymbals certainly can damage your ears over time.
It's no fun.

Let's put it this way: you know that ringing you get for a few hours after a show or whatever? Now imagine it never going away...when I do notice it, it's annoying.

My range of hearing is still very good after all those years drumming and mixing live sound (tops off at about 18 KHz, last time I checked), but there's definitely some damage, and I wish I'd been more careful.

I used to use ear plugs from time to time, but not every time... gotta do it every time.
