Okay, now I wish again that I could have tagged along!!
Very happy you didn't have to belly-in at Wittman; that would be embarassing in front of all those pilots. ::)
"Yep, he prob'ly forgot to put the gear down.."
"Yep."

We'll plan it better and more in advance next year, Rotty.. Maybe even you pick me up (there's a good chance I won't be renting from that club much more  ;)  )

I'd have MUCH prefered to have a pilot with me. The guy with me is my first student and he's struggling.. I thinks he's got more fear than he'll admit and it's not subsiding..

Hey, I saw that C-54 taxiing to take-off on Sunday, but we never knew where it went, I guess you found it. ;D ;)

Interesting photos. I used to overhaul those electro-hydraulic powerpacks. They're fine until something goes wrong. Didn't like them much. Good to know the emergency pump works.

Gee... I wonder why... ::) You've read my mind, though- I'm hoping to join another club this year, so by next summer, that's a distinct possibility. It'd make a lot more sense for me to pick you up as I head west... and a detour to the UP wouldn't be so bad; a good way to avoid overflying water very much, or tangling with the Chicago airspace. Who knows? I may even have my IR by then (now I'm really being optimistic! ;D).

I'd have MUCH prefered to have a pilot with me. The guy with me is my first student and he's struggling.. I thinks he's got more fear than he'll admit and it's not subsiding..

Yeesh, that's not good... I guess you have to get him to 'fess up before you can make any more progress with him...good luck with that.

Yeah.. the design is not very airplane-like. The resevoir is build to retain just enough fluid for the manual pump in the event of a leak. And the manual pump isn't truly like a back-up system, even if there IS just an electrical pump failure. There are way to many weak links in a 177RG's gear system.
