An average bolt of negative lightning carries a current of 30-to-50 kiloamperes(kA), although some bolts can be up to 120kA, and transfers a charge of 5 coulombs and 500 mega joules (enough to light a 100 watt light bulb for 2 months). This is why modems get fried and why you never leave a puter on during violent T-storms. I've lost 3 surge suppressors to lightning and 2 dial up modems. Ever since, I shut down and disconnect my DSL modem from the wall jack.

Blast! That means it's comming to Belgium too...

Way to go on the shots! How did you do it? Long exposure? Cheer luck?

Both :)

Unfortunately the max exposure on my camera is 4 seconds, not very much compared to others. However, out of 155 shots, I managed to get 4 with clear lightning on!

Ahh now that youve started the lightning i'll finish it up! (in my own post of cource) couple nights ago we had a huge thunderstorm, atleast 10 lightning strikes per minute. It made takeing pictiures of it easy but a good shot was hard. Either my F-stop was too small and the lightning didnt show well, or it was to big and it was overexposed!   :o As you got 4 of 155 i got 16 of 100  ;) Also i have a 8 sec exposure so that made it easyer  ;D
