Rainy day project-phase 2

Sorry to keep you all waiting so long   ; the new TV alcove is "finished for the time being"...


Found some odds and ends to frame out and wall off the platform...I was hoping to avoid nailing that metal stud on the right to the brick wall, but had no choice. Times like that I wish I had a powder-charge nail gun, but it's not worth it for such occasional use.




I may just paint that fiberboard dark gray later, or maybe sheath it with birch luan when I make some flats to divide the room later. Then of course a little more finish carpentry so I can get rid of the milk crates and speakers...
Whatever... it's nice to have some more elbow room up in the "theater"...

Oh and don't  throw away those milk crates, they come in real handy and are getting harder to obtain.

I have never used milk crates but I have used concrete blocks and one time I used bricks.

Oh believe you me, I won't throw them out... I just want to free them up to fill with junk.
I have moved many times, and all I can say is: thank heavens for milk crates!!

Yes, bricks or blocks are much more sophisticated , but that platform is not quite rated for much more weight than the TV. It'll support at least 180 lbs. temporarily (I stood on it), but later I will most likely support the TV shelf off the walls on either side. Don't want all that to come down on my head someday while going through the door...

Seriously, my plan is to go with all wood there; it'll look nicer. I may even make some kind of cabinet- I haven't quite figured it all out yet.

I've said it before, but that some serious funky place you live Rotty! I really like seeing you pictures, they are cool! Plus, it gives me the feeling my place isn't as much of a dump really! I mean, I too have some walls that aren't painted yet, some cracks in the ceilings... But in the end, it doesn't bother me that much, you kinda go with the flow...

It's the very first TV I've actually paid for... and the biggest so far. I'm diggin' it.
