This evening, I took a walk along the Grand Western Canal, which runs from Tiverton, Devon to Holcombe Rogus / Burlescombe, Somerset. (This is in the southwest of England, where most farmers reside
). The canal was used (back in the 19th century) as a main shipping route in and out of Tiverton and the main settlements along its route, but when the Exe Valley railway was built (in the second half of the 19th century) the shipping route wasn't as important. However, the canal still survives today as a "Country Park", it's really quite scenic and peaceful. Here are some of my shots:The main resident along the canal - ducks
This is Manley bridge, near Manley, a settlement not too far from Tiverton.

The view east from on top of the bridge, towards Halberton, a small-ish village about 5 miles from Tiverton.
About 5 minutes walk from this point is an Aquaduct - similar to a viaduct, only it carries water across the top. The Aquaduct spanned the Exe Valley Railway, which was dismanteld in 1965. Now, the Aquaduct spans a small construction site (I think they're lengthining the pathway that follows the railways' route out of Tiverton.)
Typical Devonshire countryside...all it needs now is a farmer, a tractor and a few cows.
