My Weekend (Pt 2)

Postby TSC. » Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:52 pm

Hi all,

After visiting the South African memorial we moved on to the Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge. The memorial & park commemorates 11,285 missing Canadians.

Next to the road leading to Vimy Ridge, all of the surrounding area & woodland is full of craters like this, caused by the relentless shelling during battle:

Walking into the memorial park. The park is situated right on the Canadian front line with the Germans:

This large crater in the foreground actually covers the entire distance between the Canadian & German front lines:

The German front lines. The flag in the left of the picture is the Canadian flag situated some distance behind the Canadian front line:

Supply trenches running back from the German front line:

Next, the Newfoundland Memorial Park.

Cheers,

TSC.

great photos T. I remember we were given tennis balls and told to stand in opposite trenches and throw them at each other. Its only then did we realise how close they got in some of these places. :o
