Snatching victory, etc...part 4 (last)

Postby beaky » Mon Mar 27, 2006 10:08 pm

A quick thank-you here to the owner and chief pilot of "The Silver Bullet", Gus Kushner... his gesture was a perfect example of all of the very best things that General Aviation fosters: fellowship, goodwill, and trust.
And his brief verbal checklist on approach includes "gear: down and welded", which I think he says aloud every time, solo or with company... I knew I was in good hands when I heard that. ;D
Mr. Kushner is also a CFI and active glider pilot (there is a glider club at Central Jersey)
- and he's a bona-fide 47N airport bum. A bad influence, for sure.  ;)
:D

And another salute to the lovely and talented "Silver Bullet"...
Rugged, simple, and eager to please.
An unforgettable, unique  1.2 hours goes into my logbook, and... I just busted 200hours ; had 199.6 before this flight. It's fate, I tell ya...

Image

After I deplaned at the pump (somewhat grateful for the fresh, avgas-scented air- that bubble takes a little getting used to), another of 47N's motley crew of pilots, Jake, struck up an RV-centric conversation, and soon they were off for a ride. Went to Vansant to land on the grass... that must've been sweet!
Missed their landing back home, though- just as I went inside.

Image

An obligatory 47N random: the wind was still huffing and puffing out of the NW, and this magnificent Cardinal came wobbling down  only to be swiftly, firmly pushed down on all three by its pilot; very well, too. Note the position of rudder and aileron. Put it right on the numbers.

Image

Not sure how the driver of this giant 4-holer made out at KEWR; he had quite a crab going there.

Image

And how was your Sunday... not too dull, I hope? ;D
Thanks for looking, and be on the lookout for the 5 minutes or so of footage that I will eventually post.

Didn't note the time. Had no chart. The skipper was navigating... but I'll guess around 1345.

You seem to have had your share already- I have a lot of catching up to do as an airport bum, hanging around cadging rides.
Whatever the case, don't forget your camera!! ;D

You're a hard man to please... :P

I used to see a Yak trainer at (now-defunct) 2N8; might still be flying in these parts.
I'll keep an eye out.

I don't want to overload this thread with more images, but here's a photo I took of a Yak 52 that was parked up at my local airport for a few weeks, a couple years ago ;)
