737 by rail

Hello all, thought you might like to see how they move aircraft around before final assembly.





These were taken at my new extremely boring and BS (but suprisingly well paying) job, which involves sitting at a private railroad crossing... all day. Anyway, these are 737 fuselages. I've been watching them go by at 60 miles an hour for two weeks, then the other day a train finally slowed down enough for me to get some pictures.

great stuff man! haha dont whine, sounds like easy money, all you need is a hobby to take along to the field...like wireless internet, an instrument, music, books...hahaha

so...what do you exacly do?

What do I do? NOTHING! Actually, my job is to prevent dump trucks from crossing in front of trains. Appearently, some one was killed last year at this crossing, so now they have a "guard" there to keep it from happening again. Also, I guess there is a law against putting those automatic arms at a private crossing, so someone has to do it.

Well, if you get money to sit there and watch trains cross, why complain? Sounds boring, but Id love to be paid to sit on my ass all day!

how do you know when a train is coming?

no, bad question... more like how miuch time do you have oto close the gates before a train rumbles through.

and, y think the train is goin fast for aerodynamic testing

Great piccies Tacit. I'm gonna have to go and ask around the local airport to see if they need a guard to hang around the approach end to make sure people don't get too close to landing planes - That'll be a cool job. Might even see the same aircraft that are in your shots (with a bit more of their wings though )

Questions, questions...

I can tell when trains are coming because there is a long straight section of track on either side of that crossing. Also, my client likes the gates closed at all times, and opened to let cars/dump trucks through, then closed again.

No, I don't have internet access, in fact this whole thing came about short-notice, so I don't even have a guard shack.  For now, I sit in my pick-up. I just got my hands on a laptop that is only 1 1/2 years old, the only thing it needs is a new CD/DVD drive, then I will have that for entertainent.

And finally, I'm glad you guys liked the pics. I always keep my camera ready out there because of things like this.

That is something the rest of us don't see everyday!  :o
does seem a bit dull, job-wise, but it beats digging ditches, as they say. And at least you're outdoors... that makes up for a lot, IMO.

Look how new those fuselages are... where exactly are they coming from, and where are they going to, I wonder?
