A rare visit

Postby beaky » Mon Jan 02, 2006 12:09 pm

Went flying today; no pix from that... but on my way home I spied an unusual visitor to KEWR:

Image

Trying to find out when it might be departing, but no luck with Volga-Dnepr's website... anybody know how I can find out? I'd like to get some shots of it in flight.

It was a rental checkout (C152); I hadn't flown in 3 months, so I didn't want the distraction. Not sure why I brought the camera anyway, but I'm very glad I did!

As for the AN124: I actually doubled back on 1&9 so I could have the camera ready when I passed.... if I find out when it's leaving, I might go into one of the parking lots to try to get some shots when it takes off.

How does it look compared to a 747 400 Sight?

Hard to say unless they're side by side. And i haven't seen a 747 close to that fence in a while... not sure. I think the 124's tailfin is taller.. it's huge.

Tis a huge beast. I remeber when one was parked on the taxyway at RAF Manston as it then was in 1996 or 97. Too big for the pan at that point! Thankfully due to the exceedingly large concrete area (the main runway and taxyway are a single 9000' x (about) 900ft piece of tarmac!) at Manston it was just fine! ;D
