Once again in Douglas, GA. This B25 was parked where the B17 was awhile back. I wish I'd had my camera last weekend because they had the bomb doors open and it was full of dummy bombs. Looked awesome.

Hey that's awesome. My wife is from douglas and so I was there seeing in-laws for Christmas. I don't know much about this plane; it just happened to be sitting there as I drove by. Registration read b-25-j-30-nc. Its pretty cool that someone else on here has actually been to this airport and knew something about this plane. the b17 is supposed to be back in a couple of months and my wife is sending me up in it. I can't wait!!!

You'll have fun in that B-17.

It was being restored in Kissimmee.  OVer the years I've seen it "grow" from a jumbled metal carcass to the an almost complete plane (sans engines).

That B-17 has an interesting history.  At one time it had five (count them) five engines.  #5 was actually a turboprop engine, mounted in the nose, for which the cockpit was moved, I believe, about five feet to the rear.  When flying, that one turboprop engine had more than enough power to move the B-17 comfortably through the air.

Tom Reilly's group of restorers carefully took the surviving parts, reused what could be reused and built up new parts where needed.

The end result was the B-17 that flew about a year ago..

Yeh I read some of that on the website my wife showed me about it. Next to this B25 were what appeared to be old wings off a B17. Not sure if it was off the same plane though. http://www.libertyfoundation.org

I know I took (and posted here) some photos of that B-17 just after it had been rolled out of the hangar - without engines.

I think that in my collection of photos over the years I have a few others in the eraly stages of restoration - just recognizable fuselage, open wing section (it's a vertiable lattice inside there!
