Oshkosh #12:

Postby Wing Nut » Sat Jul 30, 2005 10:39 am

There were, of course, a bunch of trainers present, including what must have been 2 dozen Texans not counting those in stunt planes and aerobatics!  Some of these were drop dead gorgeous, while others barely grabbed my attention.

A group of T-28 (Turbo-mantors?) waits on the flight line.

Several Bearcats were in attendance.  Yes, it's a fighter, but it was near the Skyraiders and the T-28's.  All 3 were perfect restoration jobs!.

The awesome Skyraider.  This plane is HUGE!

A line of Texans/SNJ-6's...

A Texan converted to look like a Zero.  Pretty convincing until you get up close.
Image

A long line of Taylorcrafts, I think...

A great Ryan.  The owner (pictured) has had her for over 30 years...

A nice Chipmunk

Navy Stearman's

I thought this was a LA-7, but then I say the long cockpit.  I wish they had taken the tarp off...

Not too sure what this is...

Those Taylorcrafts are actually Cessna 01G Birddogs.

Used by pretty much all of the Services, mainly as a FO acft, especially in Korea.

And the T-28 were called Trojans.

Again, some very nice pictures.

The skyraider...one of the greatest CAS aircraft of all time, IMHO...had the speed, the durability, and the ability to carry one hellova weapons loadout.

that last one is an L-17 Navion.  Don't know if it's the Ryan or the North American version though.

I'm not too good on Russian types myself. It could be a Yak 11. http://warbirdalley.com/yak11.htm

Actually, the acft in Tora Tora Tora were either re-builts or actuall aircraft.

I don't know if they still do, but back when the Heritage show was touring, they had about 8 of the acft that took part in the filming there to do the re-enactments.
