Now, the issue is not that MS or anyone else cant do it.. the issue is MS can not ship a title on 10-20-50-100 DVD's and at the same time sell you a simulator for 60 bucks, it would ba a well over 200, probably more even in mass production. In that, FTX is going to cost you 400 dollars+ to cover the entire world. So please don

Nick, from your post I quote 'I never said you were dissing GEX'.

Well if you don't think so why are you suddenly in my post about my new FTX purchase and pics, in which GEX was never mentioned once, talking about how the product you are involved in, GEX, is much better value for money, and how the 'so-called FTX revolution' is nothing but hyperbole and BS, then?

I don't recall leaping into your earlier threads about your hard work improving GEX Enhanced and saying hey guys..... FTX is coming out soon....

No but really, I have no stake in FTX, I'm not friends with any of the makers. I just like it, as I like VOZ, and am posting my first screenshots of this new scenery product as..well...as you do when you've just bought something new. GEX is totally unconnected with this post. It's just a normal post of screenies from a new add-on.

I've nothing against GEX, and I think your work on it is amazing, but I have a limited budget both of money and time these day and because A.Vos did the US first I didn't run out and buy it, shoot screenies and rave about it. I don't think my lacklustre reception of GEX harmed its sales much though...

Anyway, otherwise we kind of agree Nick  :o  :D

FTX and GEX can and will co-exist and that's cool with me  :)
For tube flyers now in FSX then GEX is absolutely the way to go, and also for people who love changing locations for their flights.

With the Czech crown strong one FTX region is quite cheap though so I expect I'll buy most FTX packs as they come out every 2 months or so... I hope. As I fly low and slow, my feeling right now is that I don't need the entire world to be covered with anything. Just Aus Blue region has hundreds of hours of flying in it before seeing every corner. Instead of leaping from one part of the globe to another as I used to do, I'm into the strong feeling of immersion FTX gives and feel inclined to stay in one not exactly small or unvaried place.

However, I also expect my behaviour to change once again in the future...as the FTX novelty wears off... :D and I've no doubt that I'll buy GEX for those exotic outside-FTX flights. The screenies from it look great. Mind you, I will be holding out for the Aerosimulations generic terrain package to see if they pull it off and it turns out to run smoothly and looks even better. Hey - I'm a fickle consumer  ;D

Looking at their pics though, I'm not sure how they're going to manage autogen. And the more detailed photoreal tiles get, the more their repetition becomes noticeable. We'll see.

I hope your deal with FSXI comes off...it would really make it a much better out-of-box product, though whether I'll get to use FSXI within 10 years is a question. Just getting a decent comp for FSX is a long way away, and maybe I'd rather invest in scenery/planes than hardware.

Cheers, Krigl

I have GEXn and FTX. I love them both but for realism, I think FTX has a hand up on GEXn. It looks so much more 3D and real. GEXn is a hell of a lot better than FSX default but it still has so much of that maunfactured look and color. Unlike krigl, I like flying different places and I like to fly low and I haven't seen anything as good as FTX for low and slow. Makes you almost want to wave at people on the ground. Can't wait for the USA version to come out.

Roger

1. What I posted has nothing to do with you or anyone else buying GEXn or FTX. I could care less what people prefer. I do however wish to make sure there is factual information about products posted. In that, I can post what I wish and that information will be FACTUAL

2. What I posted was in direct relationship to your elongated and elaborated post about addons and what should come out of the box and why it may or may not.

3. You are welcome to come into any thread I post and comment, and, I will comment back.. that is what forums are about.

4. You extended this thread into a conversation when you elaborated past posting a few pictures.

5. GEXn and FTX are not competing products and by any standard because they are both designed differently and with different goals in mind. Although you did not say that directly, I am seeing more and more comments that relate to the two and comparing, case in point the comment after mine. And the quote from yourself below which is exactly the same however it is in direct relation to the subject matter I responded with..

6. I did not come into this thread to make a point about GEXn, cut down FTX or anything of that nature. I can have an opinion Roger, whether I am connected to the GEXn project artistically or not, first and foremost I am a simmer and as such I have the right to state my opinion regardless of you judgment of it or my intent.

Looking at things to come - the makers of Flight Environment X seem determined to fight back against the challenge of REX and GEX. I seem to remember them talking about a new ground texture range with.

That

but don't both GEX (GEXn) and FTX both supply updated ground textures? depends how you split the market but i would say they are both competing in the scenery market, they are competing products both offering very very similary things just in a differant part of the Sim World (geographical that is) and even if you argue back they are not competing then surely the FTX team's USA addon is a direct competition of GEX!

but mostly nick it sounds like a case of sour grapes that their are loads of posts about FTX and few from others about GEX or GEXn

i can now imagine the comments i will recieve back probably something along the lines of "your just a stuck up teenager" blah blah blah

but hey, im just displaying my opinion, thats whats forums are for isnt it?

Exactly and that is my point to Roger

you have a right to yours even though it is not coming from a place of knowing the products internally, knowing the developers, or, knowing what Anthony and I planned and how we intend to move forward, and, knowing how we consider the GEX product which does NOT replace landclass, does NOT land textures manually, does NOT design custom autogen, does NOT place autogen based on sat images, does NOT replace or design scenery BGL's, and which must adhere to the system ACES designed to work.. etc, etc, etc....

Your opinion is valid because that is what forums are about and since the topic was brought up, you may post that opinion freely...

no matter how wrong you may be

:)

FTX is a FULL SCENERY replacement add-on... GEX is a BASIC TEXTURE replacement add-on

NickN i have to disagree with you, as an Australian i believe that these textures are 'As Real As It Gets'.

By the way Krigl and Fly2e, I have only seen kangaroo's in one place, they are rarely seen in my opinion

Well Nick, Fly2e asked me for my opinion on FSX now, after a while of use and I gave it. I didn't hijack my own thread. I find it oppressive that every time I say something that you disagree with I end up wasting hours of time posting arguements and counter- arguements.

I have a feeling you're convinced that there are two points of view, Nick's point of view and the wrong one, backed up by years of experience as an expert in your field, and you feel the need to correct factual errors, like for example, you think that parts of FTX actually look crappy - you think this, so it's automatically a fact - but I don't always want to be taken to task for expressing my views.

I've got no more time for this, sorry.  :)
