Sons Of Liberty (Pt. 2)

Postby The-Black-Sheep » Tue Aug 28, 2007 6:12 am

As we descended into Juneau Intl, I became slightly confused. There was no destruction, no fighting...just simply beautiful countryside. Hardly seemed like a war zone.

However, over the PA system on the aircraft came our mysterious voice once again.

"Good afternoon everybody. The view out the window seems quite surreal doesn't it? Don't get used to seeing that from now on. You are the first pilots to operate from our new F.O.B (Forward Operating Base), Juneau Intl. You are directly in the path of the enemy. Luckily, some of our bravest soldiers from the 101st Airborne and the 1st infantry division are keeping the enemy from over-running the airfield. We'll be touching down in less than 2 minutes"

I looked out the window again. I felt safer to know that there were at least some fighter pilots around giving us that all important protection. I just hope that they'll be there when we're in combat. I don't exactly plan on being a sitting duck when everything all goes to hell on the battlefield.

After landing, the C5 taxiied around the corner of the tower, and slowly lowered itself down to the ground, so we could get all our equipment off. After having unloaded, the C5 shut its doors, and prepared itself to take off and possibly find some other un-suspecting GA pilots and draft them into the conflict.

One pilot on board managed to take his camera with him and he took a shot of me and my new co-pilot sitting "in the office" getting used to everything.

After spending approximately an hour getting used to all the systems, we headed to the crew room to relax and more importantly, to figure out why the hell we were here! We met some pilots from VF-32 "The Swordsmen" who had been transferred to land based operations. Unfortunately, we could only get very little information from them. They were just about to launch on a sortie to the west coast to see the enemy's naval capability.

Sure enough, less than 10 minutes later, I heard the scream of the afterburners as the F-14's ascended into the dusk sky.

Maybe they can give us some answers if they return...

Well, unfortunately, the next part is a long way off. I'm moving in 2 weeks, and I'm packing like crazy and figuring out what I need to take with me etc, so it's all going crazy here at the moment.

Hopefully, when I've settled in, I can carry on with the story, but I wouldn't hold on to it  :( It's a shame really. Was looking forward to carrying on with it.

Maybe one day eh?  ;)

C + C welcome as always  :)
