Never been to the South Pacific, so I though I'd take the IRIS P40 Kittyhawk for a spin round one of the islands...

Okay, the only comment I have to make is hmmm those pics with the contrail, or "wingtip vortices" are fake. Those are some really excellent shot's.

Well inorder to create such a distinct contrail , it requires the aircraft to have a wing design in such of a way that the wingtips will create that wingtip vortices. That wingtip vortice is caused by pressure in the air and the amount of air flowing over the wing which will become high pressure, those showing a white line in the sky. The P-40 has a round wing tip

The P-40 has a round wing tip  so theirs not enough pressure created, to make "wing-tip vortices". On other aircraft this is the case, For example all modern attack aircraft , maybe a tornado and a F-16 will create it, the wingtips have a straight trailing edge. Thus that's where the wing tip vortices occur. Also, their created when a aircraft is undergoing high G menuvers. So basically, the aircraft was advertised to be more interessting I guess, to have something that doesn't really occur with that type of aircraft.

I think Charlie might already know a thing or two about aerodynamics and such, considering what he does..

Anyway, can anyone confirm this?
Did the P-40s, spitfires (not the clipped wing versions) and other WWII aircrafts not make these wingtip trails?

Excuse me alittle bit though, Let me reframe what I said, or fix my point... lol. It's possibal in most conditions and most aircraft that wing vortices can happen. Just requires moisture in the air , theirs low pressure and wing the lift is created by the wing that wing produces high pressure, which therefore makes a contrail and so on. With most light aircraft you really see this or it's invisible. You can't obviously have contrails occure in a desert climate. It can happen with most aircraft,...just not visible!! -Skynoz

To be fair, Fiji (I've never been) probably is a very humid climate, very much like much of the south pacific. I've had them for real (and seen them for real) in situations where the G hasn't been all that high... As for the wingtip shape, I hadn't really though about that...

Im sure It can happen in Fiji with no problem, just in the pics those contrails looks fake, not to say anything else does, they just dont portray the realism. But otherewise interessting subject....
