Frontier Airlines summer 1950-part 3

Up they go to about 7000 MSL; power and props back to normal climb settings; cabin signs off, boost pumps off... a few puffy clouds here and there; no problem. visibility is typical of the area this time of year: about 40 miles.

About to level off... should be just about abeam Laurel Airport now... "Got it", the copilot says.
The chart I'm using is hardly 50s-vintage, and I'm still not sure what airports and navaids were available in that area at the time, so I'm guessing for now... with any luck, I'll have more details later.

Almost there... as soon as she's trimmed out and set on the correct heading, and power, props, and cowl flaps set for cruise, the AP will be set.
This is an "old school" AP- doesn't seek heading and alt so much as hold the plane where you put it. To change things, you have to first shut it off, then make corrections by hand.
