Not perfect, but...

I liked this idea. I know the light's not just right, shoulda used the gray repaint, yadda yadda, but I'm happy with this fairly quick edit I did with the GIMP. What say the rest of you (go easy on me- i'm new at this)?

Well, in the first place I think it's remarkable that you actually figured out how to use the Gimp. ::)

Very nice work old chap. ;)

LOL, and LOL again! Yeah, it's weird. If you'd like some tips, feel free to ask, but I don't know if I can explain what I do. And God knows I haven't figured it all out yet! But I like what I can do with it. Being able to change perspective on selected areas helped a lot for this one 'cuz in the original picture the plane was a little distorted by perspective. And I always resize my images with the GIMP- it does a nice clean job.

Thanks for the comments- I'll have to have another go at it!

Yeah I've got a question about GIMP: Is there a jetwash effect?

Not per se (no "jetwash" button)...  I've never tried to do that, but there are tons of filters in there, and I bet w/some experimenting, you could make a decent jetwash effect (I assume you mean heat distortion mixed with turbulent exhaust?).

And here's another thing: I just opened GIMP to play with it, and remembered 2.0 doesn't come with any Help files!! ::)  No wonder I haven't used it for much besides superimposing, sizing, and airbrushing...

Graphic Image Manipulation Program... free download. Google it. I think they still don't have a Help file ready for the latest version, but it's not that hard to figure out how to use basuc stuff. All I did for this was: cut and paste, resize, change perspective (of cut sections),blur,  and airbrush. Pretty standard stuff. But I really like the way it does these things- especially resizing ("scaling"). It holds the aspect ratio if you want, and willresize by pixels, mm, whatever... and with very little data loss. Nice. Free. Try it!
