Plane tracking website?

Postby michaelb15 » Sun Nov 13, 2011 3:00 pm

Hey guys! Is there any website that I can go onto that I can see what planes are in the air around my town?

I live under a major air highway, and a jet flies over my house prolly every 2 mins, at around 15'000 feet I think..

I was wondering if there is some sort of website that I can see the details of the aircraft that are flying overhead? details like how high they are.. how fast they are going.. what kind of aircraft they are.. etc..

Just really curious about it.. ive seen these planes flying over head for 10 years now, but I dont kno any more about it now then what I did when I was a lil kid.. It would be nice to kno exactly where they are going.. what altitude they are at and how fast they are traveling

Btw I live about 2 hours north east of toronto, Ontario if that helps..

Thanks guys :)
I am somwhere I don't know where I am!!!

http://flightaware.com/

That site allows you to track traffic pretty much anywhere, you can even just pick a type of aircraft and it will show you where they are.

flightradar24(or 24flightradar) is good as well,no need to install anything.

what if you don't know the flight number?
then you would have to use a different site...

well thats kinda cool.. but im looking for somthing that shows all aircraft.. not just certain ones.. im trying to find a way for it to show all aircraft.. is there a way to do that?

I just want to see all aircraft of any type thats within 10 miles of my town.. I dont care where they are going, or where they are coming from.. I just want to be able to see it on the computer, and find out what kind of flight it is, so I have a better idea of what it is, and where it is headed.

with that website, they expect ya to already kno where it is going.. or what type of aircraft it is.. I havnt found a way for it to just show ALL aircraft..

Go to live flight tracking tab select browse by airport then select a airport close to you. It then shows all traffic in that area on a map. If you don't live close to a airport you can zoom out on the map and it still shows the air traffic in the area. It also shows en route aircraft not just ones using the airport you have selected.

Fozzer's KLAX example shows this pretty well.

its pretty cool.. theres a lot of air traffic above my area, and I want to film some, and if I upload it somewhere now I can say exactly what flight it is :)

Whenever I look at the KLAX/KSFO aircraft activity in Flightaware, it scares the heeby-jeebies out of me when I take to the air near those locations in my tiny little Cessna 150!.... :o....!

flight aware is probably the best one for north america. It seems to cover most... if not all of Canada, and of course the US. It doesn't cover Europe or the UK (at least, not when my girlfriend went to England a few years back). I would imagine that you could be near an arrival route or an approach path of some sort, given your close proximity to Pearson. I know living close to Kitchener, I get airplanes flying over on their way into and out of YKF, YYZ, and YHM. And of course Ornge only adds to the amount of traffic too, haha. Anyhow, if you're looking to film this stuff, just remember, all of that information is being relayed from somewhere, and then updated onto the internet, which means that there is indeed a lag between what the airplane is doing, and what the website says it's doing. As well, something that could add you in keeping track of a certain aircraft or approaching aircraft would be Toronto Center from liveatc.net... just something to think about.

I like to go to flightaware and type in KEDW. Theres always something interesting flying in and out of there!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.
