Yea, I read about this a few months ago. I wish them the best of luck, as it would be incredible to see one of these fly again.

So they are just going to go for a "restore" rather then upgrade it?

Could you imagine it with an all glass flight deck, and the same motors off the Euro Fighter? Would be a much better plane, and cheaper to operate since they would be able to get spare parts from something that is in use by 6+ countries rather then 2. Just any thing would be better then the original motors.

Or even better in an extream case, see if they can get the SR-71 motors and have these installed

I think you're missing the point. This is a proposed restoration under the original type approval for occasional flights at air displays. There is no intention to carry passengers or put it back into service. Any modification would involve new type approval which would not only be expensive & time-consuming but I would say impossible in the current economic climate.

That alone will be expensive enough. Gaining a new type approval for (a) Concord, it would be cheaper to build a new one. I have to agree with Hagar on this one, can't see it happening.

Back in the mid 1990s when I was a lorry driver/transport manager I'd deliberately plan my route so I'd be in the vicinity of LHR at around 1030, just to see her take off. It's still the most awesome aviation sight imaginable and if they get her back in the air I'll be there with bells on.. along with the missus and kids! I took Gemma to Heathrow on the 23rd Oct. 2003 when all 3 made their final landings and she was full of emotion, I only wish I'd taken her to a full with fuel, full powered take off, that was something else.

Slightly off topic (ish) but the very last departure from LHR, I think it was 23rd November 2003, to Filton I was there. The weather was grim, grey skies and rain on and off. She lined up on 27R, fired up those engines and took off.. Almost immediately a break in the cloud appeared, the sun shone through it and through she went... it was the ONLY hole in the cloud cover. Amazing sight, it brought a tear to the eye.
