The aeroplanes I like most work best on a grass runway. That includes warbirds like the Spitfire which were designed to operate from grass airfields.. :P

Thanks. I'm still debating whether to go or not. It's a long way to drive just to get soaked especially if they can't fly the aircraft I really want to see. The programme has changed a bit since Charlie posted it although you're never sure what will turn up until the day of the show.

And on this side of the lake, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, USA, May 10th and 11th.

Assuming no major disasters, I plan on going and taking plenty of pics.

Ah well, fist show over. As ever, the plan and reality differed a bit. Sadly the airfield was too damp for the Hurricane, Provost and Anson, and the Comet is not yet ready. However, the rest of the collection aircraft flew admirably, with some added highlights coming from Tom Blair's Buchon, PT's P40 and a brief display by the BBMF MkII Spit. :)

Not to mention a day in good company - and sorry we didn't cross paths earlier Doug! :)

How was OW.....rain at all???

Abingdon was mostly dry, but very grey (and try photographing a Black hunter in grey skies  ::) ) It did rain a couple of times though.

The highlight was the AA DC3, performing a very tight and manoevreable display, though how legal it was was questionable (I think he may have clipped the crowdline a couple of times :D )

The other highlight was Guy Westgate's new routine, onvolving a Piper Pawnee and 2 gliders :D

PT's P40 and a brief display by the BBMF MkII Spit. :)

They both got around then.....when did PTs P40 display? It's just it arrived at Abingdon at about 12 and left at about 4...... ;)

A few spots. No rain or showers as such; just some very light precipitation.

The Spit came on its way to Abingdon, as he departed to the SW. PT arrived at OW about 1615 I think. ;)
