I think what Hagar, Vodka Burner, and Myself are getting at is,..This may be tradition to the works to show off their work before it goes off. Much like at the end of an Air Show the next day when every thing is leaving, the do a "Thank you for all your help" type thing as they leav. Even though they did not call the base and ask can they do it, but they ask local permission to do one last thing for the works before they go. Is it right? no, but does every one like it? yes, and do they do any thing unsafe? no.   But some one who just happen to be their plane spotting, told the parent company that this guy is reckless and showed them the video.  **now I don't know if I'll be able to film the practice for our up coming air show, because some one might tell their home base that these pilots are doing stuff before the air show and the restrictions are lifted.**

Now will this tradition of low level fly-bys of departing planes lead to more dangerest stunts? No. But we understand your thinking that if you let it slid it could get worst, and better to nip it in the bud now, before it gets out of hand. But as the Cheif 77 pilot he knows the plane better then any one and would not do any thing out side the scope of performance of the plane.

Now if he had came back doing a fly by with the left wing pointed at the runway and right pointed straight up at the sky, while maintain perfect flight like a fighter, then yes he should get fired, along with the Co-pilot and every one else he trained to keep that from ever happening agine.

Here's the actual video of it...

Doesn't look like 320 KIAS to me. It is pretty low, though.

Safety aside, that's pretty effin' badass.

I think we will probably just have to agree to disagree a bit on this one.  I believe we both understand each other's points of view and just have come to different conclusions over the same event.

It was certainly a spirited discussion, and I thank you for being willing to debate this one out with me.  I certainly have a lot of things to think about, and I am glad to, at the end of the debate, still share a love of aviation with everyone here.

And that would be it for me.  Honestly, I am exhausted over this particular topic.  The only thing I can think to say is that perhaps termination of the pilot is too extreme, though since I don't know the full circumstances (and at all times had to argue from the position of only what was publicly available) I couldn't say.

Best to all,
Darrin

I have just seen the video for the first time and I think that the pilot in this case got what he deserved. It was not in the region of 300 kts as reported. That was very slow, very low and very heavy, full of fuel ready for a long flight. What would have happened if he took a bird or two for example. There is low fly by's and and low fly by's, that's a little too low (in my humble opinion). However, Darrins last post sums up the views here rather nicely I think.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Yep. And I'd estimate somewhere around 200kts.

I'm just sad that wasn't me who got the pictures!  I worked at Paine Field all spring and summer and NEVER saw a delivery flyby like that!  :(  A few fancy go arounds, but never a real buzz. lol
