B-52 Forced to land at Minot/ I flew a 152f

This past week I was on vacation in Monit, ND to visit my son. While I was there This happened:
A B-52 Bomber on a training mission was forced to make an emergency at Monit International Airport. The crew declared an in-flight emergency due to an aircraft malfuntion, and weather conditions at the base. It was foggy and the ILS system was not working at Minot AFB. The aircraft was also low on fuel, which was a good thing in this case. The B-52 has a 159' wing span with the outrigger wheels at about a 140' span. The runway at Minot IAP is 7700' X 150'. Because of its size, it taxied off the runway far enough as not to interfer with airport operations and had to be backed down the runway for take off. Since it was low on fuel, the wingtip wheels sat off the runway. It will be a while before I post it, but I video-taped the plane leaving Minot IAP as it headed north 15 miles for the base.

This vacation was a trip paid for by my oldest son and him mom. My son suprised me with a discovery flight, so I got to taxi, take-off, fly, stall three times and land a Cessna 152f. The instructer said It was due, in part, because of the flight sim, that I was able to do a bit more hands-ons.

Congrats- and lucky for you it was a 152... a proper trainer.
So... I'm always curious about those who first fly for real after some sim time... what was your impression of the differences?

Sounds like a heck of a trip Loomex.  Flying in real life for the first time after flying the sim is a bit interesting, especially getting used to the motions, but it also shows you how similar the sim is to real flying.

Hey!  Some of us can't fit in 152s.

Just kidding, I flew a 152 for the first time a little over a week ago and it was a tight fit (especially with parachutes on ), but with my knees at my ears, I could do it.

An Aerobat, eh? Never done aerobatics in a 152; sounds like fun.

Look at it this way: with your knees up around your ears doing stunts in a 152, you're almost in perfect position to kiss yourself goodbye!

Hey Loomex,

My family lives in Minot, ND!  What a small world!  I happen to be away in Japan for another few months teaching, but I am very anxious to get back home!

Who is your son and his family?  Perhaps we know them?

Anyway, that B-52 at KMOT was something, ne?  Probably won't become a regular service, though!  Heh.  And I was cursing myself for being away overseas when it happened!  I really look forward to seeing your pictures.
