A330 Oddity...

Postby Ashar » Sat Jan 05, 2008 3:01 pm

Hi guys,
As you probably know, I was recently on vacation...I arrived at Brussels on board a relatively new Jet Airways 777-300ER which was bound for New York...Needing the connection to Toronto, I was to change flights at Brussels...Our flight had arrived on time and unfortunately, my connecting flight was delayed by about 1 hour and 30 minutes...I whiled away the time by walking around the airport and plane spotting. I decided to return to my gate just in case...About 5 minutes after I sat down, I saw a Jet Airways A330 touch down on the runway...I assumed it was our aircraft...I waited for the aircraft to pull up to the gate...When it was a bit closer, I noticed two rotating beacon lights on the top of the aircraft...I thought it was some kind of reflection or that there was something wrong with my eyes...I waited for the aircraft to come closer still and this time, I could make out two distinct beacon lights on the roof of the aircraft and the usual one on the belly...My question is why there were two rotating beacon lights on the roof? I have yet to see any other A330 with this type of configuration.

Here's a pic to clear things up:

Thanks,
Ashar ;)

If it is not a standard for a particular aircraft it could be a customer option or it was put in a few aircraft by Airbus and then they decided to mod it out for any aircraft that followed this one. The latter happens quite often. A design enters an aircraft. After a couple of production runs it is deemed no to be required and then just does not appear on the following aircraft.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Dunno where they got it from but it might have been a black fuselage plane (FAA asks for more lights on these) and removing the stuff is too expensive
