How can you remember right runway from left?

Postby machineman9 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 11:49 am

I hear it alot in the ATC on flight sims... it will say 'runway 27L' or something... but how do you know if it is left or right when you are flying towards it?

Is it just the way that the aircraft take off in relation to the ATC? So 27L is taking off going from R to L of the tower... and vice versa

????

cheers

Well... you just need to know your position relative to the runway.

Say you were flying a heading of 090, and are to the east of the airport, planning to land on runway 27L, then from that current position the runway you intend to land on will be on the right, simply because you are approaching it from the opposite end.

And obviously if you were flying a heading of 270, and are west of the airport, planning to land on 27L, then you would simply line up with the left runway.

:)

If you're flying 090 and are east of the airport..  you'd be flying AWAY from the airport.. Same if you're heading 270 and are west of the airport..
