Myopia?

Postby Alonso » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:16 pm

Just a simple question.

For becoming a commercial pilot, what's the maximum dioptres of corrected myopia are usually allowed in the medial checks?

:P

Firstly, as disclaimer - this is from the European JAR regulations, but contact your own civil licencing agency for your own country's specific requirements; I suspect they are broadly the same.

-3.0 on both eyes UNCORRECTED, I believe .(According to JAR regulations)
At least that was the limits when I did my medical a couple of years ago.

In the US, I think you can have much higher limits, just as long as you can correct it to 20/20 vision.

Not sure about astigmatism though, if there are limits or simply a NO GO.
(I dont have it, so therefore I dont know)
People with color blindness tend to have a hard time passing Class 1 medicals aswell, atleast among
my peers.

I don't think it's as strict here as it is elsewhere.  When I took the eye exam for my third class medical, they told me to take my glasses off, then they held up a card with some symbols on it and asked me to read the smallest symbols I could make out.  Unfortunately, I couldn't read any of the symbols, but they didn't seem to care at all. :D

i was 1.55 in both eyes.

without glasses or contacts i had to rely on echo location to find my way to the shitter.

had lasik surgery 8 years ago... 20/15 since.

im not sure that the regs deal with it that way... they specify 20/40 or better corrected i believe
