Magnets and Headsets

Postby Mobius » Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:31 pm

Does anyone know if storing a headset near a small magnet can damage it (the headset)?  I just got a timer, and I want to store it in my headset bag, but it's got a small magnet on the back and I don't want my headset to be near the magnet if it's going to do something to the headset.  I don't think it would do anything, but I figure better safe than sorry. ;)

Thanks.

It's just the H10-13.4.  Thanks for the response, I didn't know if anyone knew any secrets about them that I didn't know, but it sounds like it should be fine.

All a speaker is is a one magnet with the cone attached suspended by a fixed electromagnet. One would think that they would keep things sensitive to magnets away from them, and those magnets in the headphones are a lot more powerful than the little magnet on the back of your timer. At worst, having a magnet near a speaker during its operation would cause distortion, but that would probably require a much stronger magnet than the one that's supposed to hold the timer to the fridge.
