Surely, like someone before me said, why didnt only one fly it. Like Agencies do. The bbc is littered with Getty images. Surely one could have filmed it, say whoever could file a FP First for example and the other could buy rights to it. Surely that makes more sense that putting lives at risk for the sake of a petty car theif.

Who gets to be the guy with the rights to sell the pictures?  How do you exclude others from getting in on the game?  Sounds like a case where some company bribes some government official so they get rights to fly over these events and sell their exclusive pictures at a hefty profit.

One was a local affiliate station (with ABC I think) the other just a local station who couldn't have afforded a networks fees. So tragically and ghoulishly preventable!

Chris, thanks for your explanation.  I do and did understand what you are saying.  I think, perhaps, I was off and running already making the defense argument for the trial.  :-[ ;D ;)

I think I get so riled up about convoluted legal issues simply because I see them as a hindrance and not a help to society.  I know sometimes bad things happen to good people, and when we do we often want to pin the blame on someone, anyone.  But, this does more to detract from safety and such than to ensure it, IMHO.

Well, I should probably let it go at that instead of beating the horse carcass into the ground . . .  :-[ ;D ;)
