Duxford '07

Postby lilley » Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:20 am

Hey all.

Just wondering, anyone who has been to duxford, how does it compare to the likes of RIAT which os one of the only shows ive been to. Is it as big? and is it slightly more GA/Civil orientated rather than military or....

And im talking about the september 8th/9th airshow.

Has anyone been to the autumn one aswel? What is that like too?

cheers

Duxford is generally more laid back...less jets, more props....smaller flying display and its a good atmosphere aswell..

It also kicks ass for photos, as the aircraft have to bend in to go along the crowd line....this means they are practically over you if you stand at either end.....they also taxi right past and its generally cool...

Been to Duxford twice for airshows, Legends this year and the spitfire show last year....might go again in September though...

Try and get to legends next year....much better than RIAT :D

Most years Duxford will have 4 shows. Legends is what is says on a tin - a (piston) warbird gathering, and is the major show. The Spetember and October shows generally appeal more the the general public - you tend to get a few single jets (both vintage civil and military). However, with the new RAF Role Demos this year, any singletons are likely to only be a Hawk or Tucano, or the Typhoon - no chance to see the Harrier operating off the grass etc... ::)

An F15 will probably turn up aswell.....and if you're lucky the F86 will be displaying :)

I'll re-phrase mine to RAF singletons. If you're lucky AA will bring the Canberra or Meteor...

Duxford was a good place to see the Tornado display too, being relatively small. Again though, its all about the noise and fireworks of role demos now. I don't know if either of the Duxford shows are scheduled for one.
