there hardly likely to use a frontline fast jet in such large numbers, the costs would be extremely high.

The Thunderbirds and Blue Angels use front-line jets - however, I'm not in agreement that that's a good thing - too much speed, not enough agility.

As also stated by Hagar, 13 aircraft. Money aside, cutbacks mean finding 13 aircraft all perfectly serviceable and actually free to use for the entire year is difficult. The Hawk is readily available and sort of pleanty to spare.

On the contrary, I think there's a lot to be said, like what on earth that all means? :-?

Yes Viggen, we have the Roulettes. Quite pathetic aircraft if you ask me, we are using Pilatus PC-12s.

Heathaze, those are two hypothetical newpaper titles, incase the Red Arrows end up choosing either the EF-2000 or the F-35. I am alluding to the fact that, if they choose the EF-2000, it will be too big (See F-4 Phantom for the Thunderbirds) and they will have a collision. If they choose the F-35...well, thats not gonna happen, they use British planes. In the case that they choose the F-35...well. The apocalypse is coming! Run/fly for your life!

I can see where you're coming from, An-225, but a couple of things;

The Typhoon is a very agile aircraft, and it can hold 9g's for extended periods, unlike an F-15 or F-16. I saw that on a documentary, I'm not just making it up. You are right though, it may well be too big to use for the Red Arrows' style of display.

The F-35 is part British - BAE systems have a major share in production, and Rolls-Royce are one of the engine suppliers. It is unlikely that the Reds will ever use them, that is true enough. What really fascinates me is the potential of displaying with a supersonic VTOL aircraft - much like the F-35B. Don't you agree, that if any display team ever has the guts to start using them (unlikely) the results could be nothing short of mind-blowing? ;)

I think we can safely wrap this poll up. It seems almost all people love the Reds as they are. Unsurprising, really. They're bloody amazing.

How long have the Patruele de Suisse (Really bad spelling) used the F-5?

Half an eternity, I guess.

Those F-5s still hold up very well and their paint scheme is awesome!
