I was going to say...  Looks like a LOT of approaches. But if you look at the altitude log, it appears he was practicing holds. I can't judge the scale. They're either BIG holds or a bunch hold entries.

Could it have been some sort of photo flight, or something like that?  It looks like he progressively made his way across an area, or I guess he could have been practicing a bunch of parallel entries.  Weird. :-?

Looks like some sort of photo or survey flight. Note the scale on the map... those are not holds, methinks.
Could have been traffic patrol or reporting; all sots of possibilities.

Oh my.. I didn't see the scale..  Twelve mile legs spell photography, or even sight-seeing...
