Whilst I do feel for the people involved, I can't help to think that if there was no football connection, just like every other GA crash, it would have made a news footnote and not dominated the news all day.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Well that's the nature of the media. If someone famous or important is involved, it's going to be a bigger story.

If your favourite band were involved in a crash, you'd want to know about it, as would a lot of other people. But I can't see the need to know that "Mr S. from Birmingham" has just crash landed in his Cessna.

More noteworthy due to the fact he is the second very rich Chelsea supporter/benefactor to be killed in a Squirrel returning from evening match - the previous being Matthew Harding in 1996.

Very sad indeed.
