A380 coming to Filton

Read last night in the paper that for the first time an A380 will be landing at Filton aiport in Bristol. Last time it came, was part of a test flight to heathrow, just did a flyover. This time it will stop. Only downside is its landing on Monday, and i'm still in school then. It sucks so much. I bet someone will get up there though and get some amazing shots.

I hope it will be on the local news as it sounds like an amazing spectacle. I like the fact that Airbus are letting the workers who built part of it see their work in action.

Well, considering Filton was built for the Brabazon, I think they'll be ok!

If it was Lulsgate, then I'm sure the runway would probably disintegrate...

Well seeing as lulsgate, an standard 737 needs the whole length of the runway to stop safely. Filton is able to take the american space shuttle so an A380 should be a doddle.

Bristol Is capable of handling a 767 on long haul to Canada so its not as small an airport as people seem to think. I always enjoyed my flying lessons there at least:)
Sadly I cant get down to see the A380 though.

757s and 767s regularly operate out of Lulsgate aswell though.....

I'm impressed. It's flightpath involves flying over Portishead!!! i have seen it twice since it landed. Its exceptionally quiet seeing as it was flying lower than it will be in real operations. Could hardly hear it.

Hey relax, it's just another bus (an extremely ugly one at that), it'll be around for a long time yet and will be a regular sight!

If you don't mind I'm very proud of that bus, living where the wings are made and all that...I think It's right that we should feel some pride for her

i would have to agree mic. It think its a amazing feat of engineering that that thing gets of the ground. The fact that bristol engineers built and designed the wings and another bristol company made the trent engines adds to my admiration for it. Nice shot of it as well Mic.

But this country used to make ground breaking designs pretty much all by itself. We didn't need to build parts for foreign aircraft, we built designs that were the envy of the world ourselves. Not long ago we were a major cog in building the first Supersonic airliner, oft recognised as one of the most graceful and superb aircraft ever, or how about the first (and as yet only) successful, operational VTOL military jet, indeed both beating the 'greatest' country in the world (bare in mind the Canberra, Harrier and Hawk have all been taken and modified by them) that's something to be proud of being British for in my opinion (something that seem to make you a racist in this PC land).

Can you honestly say the A380 means the same? Yes, our engineers are brilliant, but I can't see why our building parts for a French design can be considered something for a nation to be proud of when our aviation industry was once arguably the best in the world.

Still, we all have a right to our opinion.

I'm afraid you're living in the past. Those days are long gone. Aircraft manufacture is a global business now. For various reasons one company can no longer develop & produce a new aircraft on its own, even a huge corporation like Boeing. A lot of parts for the new 787 will be built by the same companies that supply Airbus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_787#Production

Concorde was a fine example of Anglo-French cooperation which paved the way for consortiums like Airbus. This drawing shows the different companies on both sides of the Channel involved in the design and construction of Concorde.
