And there are two types of planes in the world, DC-3s and planes that wish they could be as good as a DC-3 ;D

Lol! Nice one! I like that... ;) ;D

Funny... Ozzy's sig says exactly the same about Spitfires.

This is quite a fancy plane. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it's more of a plane than a DC-3.

I think you'll find that's a matematical drawing. It passes no resemblance to a "plane" of either kind, be it a woodworker, or an aeroplane...

You're quite right.

A DC-9 from a 717?  The sound.  DC-9s are louder I think.

Ah, a DC-9 is better then. ;D

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!

Servants Poor Professor Higgins!
Poor Professor Higgins! Night and day
He slaves away! Oh, poor Professor Higgins!
All day long On his feet; Up and down until he's numb;
Doesn't rest; Doesn't eat;
Doesn't touch a crumb! Poor Professor Higgins!
Poor Professor Higgins! On he plods Against all odds;
Oh, poor Professor Higgins! Nine p.m. Ten p.m.
On through midnight ev'ry night.
One a.m. Two a.m. Three...! Quit, Professor Higgins!
Quit, Professor Higgins! Hear our plea
Or payday we Will quit, Professor Higgins!
Ay not I, O not Ow, Pounding pounding in our brain.
Ay not I, O not Ow, Don't say "Rine," say "Rain"...

Henry By George, she's got it! By George, she's got it!
Now, once again where does it rain? Eliza On the plain!

I bet in 2044 there will be at least one DC-3 still doing its job somewhere in the world.

Where are your sources Dizza?  I did do my research, and thats the number I found.

11,000 were built, and Im sure there are more than 500 still around.  For a 76 year old propliner, that is very impressive.  I doubt that in 76 years there will be a comparable number of 747s flying

And yes, the 747 has flown a lot farther and more people than the DC-3.  But if you were to compare range and carrying capacity, it wouldn't seem so different.

The fact of the matter is the DC-3 and 747 are two entirely different aircraft.  You can't compare them without fitting data.  I still consider the DC-3 a better aircraft because of its influence.  It was the fist aircraft to give operators a profit without subsidies from carrying mail.  It made up 90% of airline traffic for many years.  And finally, there are still large numbers of them working today even though most average over 40 years old.  THAT is why it is my favorite plane.

Contradicting yourself a bit there, aren't you? ;)

Yes, the DC-3 and 747 are very different aircraft, and that's precisely why there are going to be more DC-3s still flying after 71 years, than the 747. A 747 will cost more to maintain, will be more difficult to maintain due to the added stresses that come with a larger, more complex aircraft and because it will eventually get replaced by larger, faster aircraft. The 747 isn't a short field aircraft, so it won't be able to be used in other roles after it's retired from service.

Anyway, Warbird Alley estimates there are around 300+ still flying, as opposed to 500.

I have to say, I much prefer the DC-3 (well C-47, really) to the 747, simply because I prefer the vintage types, and I have no real interest in modern day airliners.

I like the big rigs, thats why i supported the 747-400. I admire the 747-100 because it was a pioneer is super-jumbo jet travel, when jet travel all together was still pretty young.

I also like the 757-200 with my friend rkjcomputerwiz who made an earlier post.

I just like any heavy jet. Especially the 747-400,300,200,100,SP,4h6 ETC
