Definately going to RIAT next year!

Postby Mictheslik » Wed Dec 06, 2006 1:54 pm

Just announced on Points West.....The Thunderbirds have confirmed that they will be displaying as part of the 60th anniversary of the USAF celebrations ;D

RIAT news!

Maybe they do listen to the peoples questionnairs. On mine I asked for Thunderbirds, Blue Angels and F22. Seems they got 1 out of 3 so far :)

Aeroplane or FlyPast also mention that P-38 Glacier Girl may complete her transatlantic ferry flight this year, which I expect will be perfectly timed to coincide with Legends at Duxford, and therefore RIAT too...

Their show itself most likely won't be anything too special, like most US demo teams they are more demonstrations than displays as such, but there still an unusual sight and very welcome, a bonus is the fact they fly real fighter jets unlike a lot of other teams!

I'd be surprised if the P38 is at RIAT whether it is here or not, yes it would fit nicely with this years theme celebrating the USAF but RIAT haven't shown much programme time to warbirds (exception being the slightly disappointing D-Day piece in 2004) in recent years. Much better to see warbirds at DX where they are truly appreciated. Not to say I wouldn't be pleased if the P38 did attend RIAT of course!

However, the warbirds they do fly, normally as part of the USAF Heritage Flights thingy, come via TFC at Duxford. Considering the P-38 is now owned by Provenance, the company that have been selling some of TFC's aircraft recently, I assume it's UK tour will be coordinated by TFC...
