Those engines won't be exclusive to the 787 and there's only so much you can do streamlining an airframe.

Have Boeing sorted out their weight problem yet?

Seems like it:

"While production of the B-787 appears to be proceeding except for a minor problem weight problem, the future of the A350XWB program is anyone

Well, if you just look at that one sentence by itself, you might conclude the glass is 1/2 empty, but the rest of the statement that you didn't include indicates production remains on schedule.

I asked whether Boeing had their weght problem sorted out yet. That sentence says that they havn't. Thats the only bit of the whole extract that interested me or had anything to do with what I asked. Just because production is on schedual at the moment, if they fail to get the weight down then it's not going to be on schedual for much longer.

At the moment they are. The layout between the engine manufactures and Boeing is some what unique. The GEnex and the Trent 1000 will be interchangeable. They use the same hard point, connection points and fittings. If in the future a 787 is has GE engines and you buy it second hand and run RR engines, you can unbolt the GE and install an RR. Also both engines are "bleed less" engines, so for the time being they will only go on the 787.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Well first off, the B787 and the A380 are competing in entirely different classes and markets.

I know that.  If you've read any of my posts in the past on this subject, I've stated such things.

A couple of things:

The 20% fuel savings figure is a combination of the engine efficiency and weight savings.  Its not all 20% from the engines.

The 787 is over our weight goal by a small margin but still under what we promised the customers.
