This occured pretty close to where I am today.. didn't see or hear anything.
Wx not bad at the time of the accident (although getting worse now); it struck at about 250 MSL right near the East River.

Raining now; that will help with the fire, if they haven't already put it out.

I may walk up that way after work to see if I can ID anything... doubt I'll be able to get very close, though.

Said it was an Cirrus SR-20, apparently flown by a pitcher for the Yankees, Cory Lidle.  Sad news to see anything like this happen, but all it seems like the media cares about is Lidle, as I haven't heard anything about the people in the building, on the ground, or anyone else in the airplane. :-[  Sad news again...

Oh fantastic-the local news just talked about how he was a relatively new pilot (NOT in a way that suggested that was the reason for the crash) and showed film of him taxiing in a 172 with one of the news anchors, (he had taken them flying two or three weeks after he got his license) now my mom is having a nervous breakdown.  Fly-in lunches with dad now in jeopardy ::)

If you haven't noticed already the media has always had a thing for making aviation appear to be the most dangerous thing ever.

To bad for the families of those involved and for aviation in general.

I should've stressed more that they actually did it very well-the reporter was visibly rattled because she had personally flown with him.  They spoke about how he was a new pilot only as information, not as an indictment, and mentioned his passion for flying.  Just seeing someone similar (to myself) was enough to set my mom off though.

Your cained to have things like this happend, no matter how safe a plane is. Oh well, luckily it were only a few people that died.
